Public Release: Beta 1.03 - New Weapons, New Boss and Actual Tutorials


This month's public release contains the second boss dungeon, a new tutorial system, and the start of the gear rework.

Weapon Extension and Rebalance

Equipment was a bit of a mess. The bonuses are inconsistent, completely independent of rarity, and make some items completely useless and others overpowered. Of course, some cursed items are completely useless, but it goes further than that. Earrings of protection give a chance of a magblock token, while horse ears give +1 inventory size and 10% reflex save. These are not comparable.

The core idea behind the rebalance is that all items are on average equally good, but higher rarity items have more complexity. The higher complexity allows for larger bonuses, balanced by drawbacks. Cursed items follow the same pattern, except that they are overspecialized. They may boost your adventurer's healing tremendously, but force her to apologize profusely when attacking an enemy.

Anyway, doing everything all at once isn't possible, so I started with the balance of the weapons of the non-cursed classes. The idea was to get 10 weapons per non-cursed class (3 very common, 2 common, 2 uncommon, 1 rare, 1 very rare, 1 legendary). Each of them is now unique with more power and more drawbacks the rarer they are.

Tutorials

The problem with the old tutorial popups was that nobody read them. It is known that tutorials are hard, getting people to spend time reading and remembering when they just want to play the game. So the new tutorials are small quests that guide you through the early game. Unlike tutorial popups, you want to read them since there's a reward. They are also available until you learned the specific lesson, so they will always be available at the correct time for the player.

Latex Dungeon

The gimmick behind the second dungeon is latex. Parts of the dungeon are covered in sticky latex which slows down your adventurers and can turn into cursed latex gear. As in the previous boss dungeon, there's a straightforward dangerous path, and a safe longer path. Don't be a coward, take the plunge.

Graphics Update + Gear

Thanks to your support I've been able to find an artist to update the boob and pregnant belly images. 


While this may seem like a simple change, this also means all outfits had to be redrawn (well the chest part at least). Additionally, I made sure that a pregnant variant was also added. This makes it so that incubate tokens no longer require the outfit to be removed first. Doing all this while keeping the game playable isn't easy and is the reason why the public version is Beta 1.03 and not this version. There are probably some cases where the issues are still wonky. But it should mostly just work:


Previous devlog I talked about extra gear for the prisoner, maid and bunny class. Now it's time for the other classes to get to their allotted 20 pieces of equipment. I'm just going to add some screenshots here to make sure I don't spoil the fun of discovering the items and their effects yourself.

What's Next

There's still some work to do with the current graphics. I primarily want to get accessories to work on the kneeling puppet, as well as updating everything else for it. I'd like for the kneeling puppet to have the same textures as the standing one so I can get rid of the arbitrary "pet" tag.

As you may have noticed I've been slowly overhauling the UI, this also needs to be finished.

Then follows the full gear update. Instead of 270 items left, there are now only 150 to go. This won't take as long as you might think. Some of these are reserved for boss specific items, and the game now also supports easy recoloring of item parts. So it should get done relatively smoothly.


So the end of the gear rework is in sight. As such I'll be adding a poll shortly regarding which of the remaining 6 bosses will be prioritized, which will also decide the order in which other stuff gets added.

  • Quest rewards are always identified.
  • You can move provisions in stacks by pressing shift.
  • If items are hidden by equipment filters, you get a warning.
  • You can change the positions of accessories in the guild.
  • Tooltips will show which parts of conditions are applicable to the current adventurer.
  • If you try to teleport into walls, the game will show you and then teleport you back automatically.

Minor:

  • Some new preset parties, thanks Keyarl.
  • The internal data for Quirks, Wearables, and EquipGroups has changed, mods from previous versions will break.
  • Some translations are now added to the game internally, so they always work on export (e.g. on Android).

  • Underlying equipment texture changes.
  • Added a create_encounter console command.
  • Latex gear has been rebalanced.

  • Desire textures are now moddable.
  • Reworked the ratkin prison in forest rescue missions.

Bugfixes:

  • Loot was being saved incorrectly, causing crashes if you save-loaded into a combat, but only sometimes.
  • Safety measures against those very hard to detect save corruption crashes.
  • Forevix quirk was partially broken.
  • One doll was missing, and two were missing from the dollmaker curio.
  • Orc magecarrier targetted enemies instead of allies.
  • Effects changing all_stats would also increase saves twice.
  • If you had more than the maximum amount of set items, you didn't get any set bonusses.
  • Saving and reloading in combat would reapply dots.
  • Random gained items can only be lootable/rewardable items.
  • Some tooltips went off screen.
  • Rolls visual in stagecoach was incorrect.
  • Anti-cowtits censor didn't work.
  • Heal command healed negatively to 0.
  • Overencumbered label wasn't centered.
  • Fixed the white square bug for the rubberpuppy tail.
  • Fixed some minimap icons in Boss1 dungeon.
  • Some room curio didn't show reinforcements correctly.

  • Eating a carrot in combat consumed food instead of carrot.
  • The game would crash if you right-clicked an enemy in the Bestiary while in the Guild.
  • You could reroll boss dungeon rewards.
  • Tutorials would pop up again in combat when disabled.
  • Ensorced could apply permanent gear.
  • Fixed a softlock in boss dungeon 1.

i can't access the ponygirl slot because the phone button with the command console is in the way, is there a way to disable it or could you remove it

in other menus the button is sometimes also in the way

Heya madodev, what kinda kinks do you like? I myself am a big fan of transformations, especially if they have an impact, like changing dialogue, or changing skills, etc. just something I enjoy, especially if there's more to it than just M2F or F2M or whatever. those can be fine, but I prefer there being more to it, like becoming a nonhuman species or something. 

Can’t wait for the next update for more new stuff to get in game

I noticed a few possible bugs in 1.03, but I think you've pointed them out in your bugfixes for 1.05. So I'm just going to ask a few questions about if what is listed there is the bug I found.

  • BugFix in 1.05: "Ensorced could apply permanent gear" - I'm on the 1.03, and I'm wondering if this "Ensorced" is referring to mimics? Because I just had a mage get uncursable "Staff of Unconditional Support" from a mimic. (It was also in a novice level rescue dungeon, if difficulty is meant to play a role in the type of cursed gear one could get).
  • "Some new uncurse goals weren't implemented correctly".  - I've got a "Beads of the Loyal Bunny (3/5)" that is displaying "Uncurse: Cannot be uncursed" and also "Remove Bead: Use move Remove Bead 0/1"; Using the move doesn't seem to be moving it along its transformation path. I'm just wondering if that's included in this list. 

By the way, I also got that "Beads of the Loyal Bunny" along with "The Muffler" very early on in a novice dungeon by roll of the dice on the bar curio and getting the bunny set equipped; Just want to be sure the former of the two should be in that pool for the bunny gear.


I'll be honest, for a brief time, I had gone from thinking the Orc Magecarrier healing my party as opposed to the enemy was a bug, to thinking it was deliberate; As if the Mage being held by the Orc was trying to help my party as an act of defiance against the orcs. Maybe that could be another orc variation, if you should so desire.


I'm having fun with everything so far. Great work!

Ensorced is a unique quirk to a unique preset adventurer.
The beads issue is something else than the uncurse goals. But it also got fixed in 1.04.

Nice idea about the mage, a shame it's just a bug though ;p

I got pass the beginning- just the whole dungeon and getting character curses off is what i couldn't do...btw this may ve a stretch but could you add more lewd fights? Like for reference how there is the mechhound <3 the game feels more like a half lewd more softcore then the hound makes it into well..a more lewd game like it supposed to be- this is just some thoughts from me...
