Public Release 2.8: Personalities/Curios/Class Rework

What's New?

Personalities

Quirks are no longer assigned randomly, but depend on the personality of the adventurer. Quirks that conform with their personality will get strengthened, other ones get removed. The same holds for crests, and innate personality traits. This makes your girls less interchangeable, and gives them more... well... personality.

The mental ward has been overhauled. It will still remove quirks, but also allows you to instill mantras in your adventurers to guide their personality the right way. Perhaps your aggressive, autonomous warrior should learn to be a bit more service-minded to fulfill her destiny as a maid?

Curios

Curios come from Darkest Dungeon. There they are interactables that you encounter during your dungeon delving. You can cleanse them with provisions and get benefits or debuffs from interacting with them. They serve the purpose of making the dungeon runs less repetitive. Curios take up an entire room, though multiple ones can be combined. When interacting with them, either forcedly or by choice, each party member will have an opinion of how to handle the situation. Those opinions depend primarily on their personality, but can also be based on their quirks, class, or stats. You then decide which option (or none if the curio allows so) to pick. These options can range from your adventurer getting fully healed, getting extra lust, getting forced equipment, or even getting permanently turned into a [REDACTED].

Quests and Flavor

There are now quests in the game. These serve three purposes. Firstly they are a soft tutorial. Secondly they will be the basis of the main story. Thirdly they allow for repeatable semi-random quests. Currently, they aren't anywhere near that. It's just an implementation framework, serving to see what works and doesn't work for the quest UI. Additionally I went through all gear, quirks, traits... and gave all of them a flavor description.

Class Rework

Classes now exist of different upgrades which are bought using point obtained from completing development goals. After completing a set amount of goals the character "levels up", but that only matters for uncursings and the dungeon difficulty required for goals. So with the goals you buy upgrades which give you the moves or stat boosts as before. This allows you to beeline certain moves and feel like you're growing faster.

Translation Support

The game now also supports translations. These are .po files that have to be added in the Translations folder next to the game. Unfortunately there aren't any translations yet, but at least they are possible now.

What's Next?

Swamp Biome

Petgirl and Slimes (already available to Patrons)

Next it's time to start working on the Swamp area and the accompanying cursed class. The pet class is already added for Patrons, it mostly works like the other cursed classes. But its weapon prevents her from wearing outfits and underwear.

I also created a couple of Slimes. These should have been added sooner (and are the reason the encounter rate of some dungeons doesn't sum up to 100%) but mostly occur in the swamp. Slimes work like Ectoplasms in Darkest Dungeon in that they can combine to form larger slimes.

Alraunes and Vines

After the slimes there are still a bunch of swamp only enemies, primarily vines and Alraunes. That's what I'll be working on now.

Interaction that maybe a interest here how to reproduce the situation:

  1.  Destroy scrap
  2.  100% Mechanic enemy do build machine move despite all scrap gone

Not a bug, just posting oversight I stumble upon by accident. Priority still to your discretion.

Thought you should know, I'm not a patron user, but I found out that there is a way for me to access the PetGirl class; I got one of the Pet set cursed items from a chest, which enabled me to change my character to the cursed pet class.

But this did also let me find out about an interesting visual bug while dungeon crawling; When given the giant ring, and she was placed in the back of the party, the pet girl's entire head would sometimes disappear. (No idea if this was already noticed or addressed in the patron 2.8.1, but thought it best to let you know.)

Another bug I've had occurred with the mimic chests; I had a girl with a gas mask on (I had two, one in the guild, one on her at the time), but it got eaten up by a cursed item; The girl's gasmask didn't end up in the dungeon inventory (which I would be alright with; potential strategic dilemma if one had a full inventory: "Do I leave now with all this loot and my precious gear, or do I sacrifice something? "), nor did it end up in the guild inventory; So, now I'm down to one gas mask.

So far, the above behavior seems to prioritize replacing the infinite boots and armbands, but this prioritizing bit may just be my imagination. Perhaps it's really just going left-to-right; I've been too scared to open any other cursed items with girls who have valuable, non-infinite gear.

By the way, I've noticed that some curios (I believe that's the shared title of the chests, mushroom room (...Did I just discover a meta pun?), bar, etc.) allow you to X-out the menu, while some do not and force you to make a decision. Just wondering if that's intentional, or if all should be forcing you into choices.

Last thing, but this isn't really a bug, but I would appreciate it if some of the tutorial/explanation menus could be updated to better reflect some of the new systems, such as that crest menu and personalities; I'm still a bit shaky on how that's working, but I may just need to review your posts on them.

But let's end this comment on a high note; I'm really enjoying the new weapons that alter some of the movesets; The idea alone is entertaining enough, but this enables a party with two of the same class to have each one come across as even more unique. Plus, they also look cool, which is always a plus.

Thanks for making this game.

Just started V2.80  Linux

[bug] When you replace a character in the squad by placing another on top of them, characters in the roster double up.  Placing a character in to an empty slot in the squad or removing a character from the squad fixes this.

2.80 game found my 2.70 sage data, even though it is in another folder.  I have not opened the 2.70 save, does 2.80 game automatically updated the 2.70 save data?

Does running 2.70 game, with out opening my 2.80 save corrupt the 2.80 save data?

There is much to take in.  Chests takes a bit of getting used to.  I have open some chest which throws cursed gear on to a character.  The gear they replace are just the basic ∞ gear.  That gear disappears, not going in to pack inventory.  Will this happen to any gear which gets switched out by chests?

Not a fan of the goal bar being under the skill tree.  My reason is when I am setting up squad, I could look at the goals and see the x/y finished and know which dungeons level they would have to explore.

Thank you for you hard work.

[edit]

bug report at top

Is there a way to get to start-up from a game.

Bot a fan of the dungeon bar at the top, seems to make the map pointless.  Which make me wonder, is there a way to have the captured characters on the map instead of the list on the side.

Now that you do not need a character in the squad to go to map, why not keep the roster on the side?

Saves from 2.7 are compatible, you can load them in 2.8 without problems and they will be converted. Running the game in 2.7 without opening 2.8 saves will not corrupt those.

Also, thanks for the bug report!

Ho-ho-HOLY SHIT THE UPDATE'S HERE AND IT LOOKS AWESOME

how to interact with the wooden boxes in the dungeon? im not able to click the confirm button

This is either an issue with the web version, or you haven't selected a girl to open the chest with yet:

Okay, that doll maker curio at lab dungeon caught me off guard. losing the warrior? Seems you have plenty of surprise, very interesting. Iron out those kinks detected in Patron build. There's my first analytics of this version, and freaking Warrior have Hellion moves? So hilarious, imagine Reinauld pull that off, wait the sword and shield combo is man-at-arms thing. Still, the shoutout just make any veteran darkest dungeon player giggle.

An error with some items for your consideration, (current playing 2.7.0 but 2.8.0 appears affected too)

The items condom bodysuit(underwear) and enema plug(plug/outfit) don't seem to want to play together nicely.

Not sure which item may be at fault (probably the bodysuit not handling the swollen belly? or should the two item be mutually exclusive). Also the bodysuit could be similarly affected whenever the character gets a swollen belly (like with the opposing move 'incubation'). Any other similar item may be likewise affected.

(+1)

Yep, a lot of the textures aren't yet working for the big bellies. It will get fixed eventually.

One, I'm waiting for this update since you post progress report on this site. Two, You said there's translation support? Point me where to submit it, because I am as surprised as those Darkest Dungeon foes upon finding out some of older games that lewd in nature have Indonesian language. Let's see how I handle em, maybe I get the ideas and poking around.
